This is our initiation to hockey program. It runs from just after Thanksgiving till late March on Sunday mornings from 830-930 at Arena George Mantha in the Gabdois Recreation Centre. At the beginning of the program almost all the kids ideally have a parent, or sibling on the ice with them – though not necessary. As the weeks go by, kids will learn to skate, use their stick, and get a taste for hockey.

This program follows Hockey Quebec’s MAHG 1 & MAHG 2 lessons. Sessions are held on Saturdays and Sundays, usually from 930-1030 at Arena George Mantha in the Gabdois Recreation Centre. After Christmas, the kids start to play friendly games against other associations and take part in the annual Jeux du Sud Ouest as well as the season-ending Jeux de Montreal. Games are played 4 on 4 with no goalies and mini-nets on a third of the ice.

This program follows Hockey Quebec’s MAHG 3 & 4 lessons. The season starts with the group practicing 3 times a week at George Mantha and Arena St Charles. Around mid October the group will be organized into teams and then as of early December they play games against other Hockey Montreal associations starting throughout the city. All games are on the weekends, and are played half ice, 4 on 4 with goalies.

At these levels the kids are playing 5 on 5 full ice hockey. The group practices together in the fall, and then teams are formed based on ability and games are played against the other associations. The kids average 3 hours of ice time a week – usually once on the weekend and twice during the week. While lots of the kids have played before at this level, beginners are always welcome!
